Every year a large majority of discarded tires are disposed of into dump sites and harm the environment. Old tires have been a major waste tire management problem in the past. We see a definite need to do our part to ensure that these tires end up being recycled or disposed of properly.
A tire is made of natural rubber (also called virgin rubber), Styrene-Butadiene(SBR), Polybutadiene Rubber(PBR), Carbon Black, Nylon tire cord, rubber chemicals, steel tire cord and Butyl rubber.
How to recycle them and solve the waste tire management problem?
There are two main ways for the waste tire management.
The first way for waste tire management is waste tire retreading.
It is a re-manufacturing process for tires that replace the tread on old tires. Retreading is applied to casing of waste tires that have been inspected and repaired. It preserves about 90% of the material in waste tires and the material cost is about 20% compared to manufacturing a new one. But it is better that waste tires only retread one time, which cannot really solve the waste tire management problem.
The second way for waste tire management is the tire pyrolysis which can recycle waste tire to fuel oil. It is a thermo decomposition of tire polymer, since waste tire are long chain polymers containing more than 50,000 carbon atoms attached to each other in a cross linked or straight chain. During high temperature processing, this long chain( C-50,000 to C-2,00,000) is broken down into smaller chain (C-1 to C-4 & C-5 to C-23).Among which, C5-C23 is oil got from long chain tire polymer. The fuel oil got from waste tires can be used for boiler factory, cement factory, glass factory and steel mill,etc. It is an ideal way for waste tire recycling and now very popular with the world.
