What is the difference between batch and continuous oil solvent extraction?

Batch and continuous oil solvent extraction refers to two physical processes, which are used for extracting oil from oil seeds. Batch oil solvent extraction is called “solution extraction” and continuous oil solvent extraction is called “diffusion extraction.”

In batch type solvent extraction plant, a diffusion process also takes place in edible oil solvent extraction process. However, due to the high temperature steam and labor requirements, batch type edible oil solvent extraction plant is being steadily replaced with continuous oil solvent extraction plant.

In edible oil solvent extraction plant, the main equipment used to extract edible oil from oil seeds is the solvent extractor, which can be either of the immersion or percolation type. The combined use of these two types of extractor makes it possible to extract oil directly from oilseeds, even if they have a high oil content, with no need for continuous screw pressers or expellers.
