Cleaning: Cleaning is a series of operation to remove impurities in oil seeds.Cleaning machine in edible oil mill machinery are mainly vibrate screen sieve(separate the impurities with gravity),aspirator(remove impurities with wind power),magnetic separator(remove the magnetic material),washing machine(wash the dust).
Husking/dehulling/shelling:Oil seeds like peanut, sunflower seed, cotton seed, palm kernel, etc., have hard shells above nuts. Husking/dehulling/shelling is to seperate shells from nuts.And the peeler can be used as fertilizer or animal feed factory.
Drying: Reducing oil seed moisture to proper moisture is drying. Oil seeds might be harvested in rainy season with a high moisture, which leads drying to be essential for storage and further processes.Drying machine are always chain dryer ,fluidized-bed dryer,etc..
Crushing: Mechanical size reduction process is also named crushing. For big-size oil seeds, crushing reduces its size to benefit flaking, while for prepressed cake, crushing turns cake to proper size and creats better oil yeild for second press or solvent extraction. Crusher machine is always necessary for soybean, peanut, palm kernel, coconut copra, tung oil seed, etc..
Softenning: Softenning adjusts moisture and temperature of oil seeds, softens and increases plasticity of oil seeds. For low-oil-content oil seeds (soybean, rape seed/canola, cotton seeds, etc), softenning is an essential process for better flaking effect. For example, oil content of soybean is 18-22%, while soybean is hard, low-moisture and low-temperature, flaking will bring plenty of powders without softenning. However, this needs to be stressed that whether softenning is needed still depends on the properties of oil seeds.

There are 2 tupes of edible oil solvent extraction, direct solvent extraction and pre-pressing extraction. Direct solvent extraction is always used for low-oil-content oil seeds, while pre-pressing extraction is used for high-oil-content oil seeds.

Edible oil solvent extraction : Edible oil extraction is to extract oil from crude oil base or pre-pressed cake to oil mixture and meal.
The major equipment of this section is extractor, and extraction pot is always used in batch extraction while continuous extraction uses loop type extractor, rotocel extractor, crawler type extractor, etc.
Desolventizer toaster: Meal from extractor consists of 25-35% solvent. And in order to recycle solvent and get better-quality meal, wet meal drying is necessary. And high bed desolventizer toaster is always used in pre-pressed leaching meal, while DTDC desolventizer toaster is always used for direct extraction meal.
Oil stripping tower/ oil stripper: Oil mixture consists meal powder, solvent and oil. This step is to seperate these 3 indreginents by filtration, evaporation, and stripping.

Solvent vapor condensation and recovery: Mixed vapor from desolventizer toaster, evaporator, and stripping tower should first be condensed to liquid by condensers, and then seperate solvent and water by water separator, and finally get recycled solvent to reuse in extraction.

Crude oil obtained from expellers or solvent extraction, contains impurities. To make the oil edible, the impurities must be taken out; such a process is called "oil refining(oil refinery plant)". Oil Refining (Oil Refinery Plant) means conversion from crude oil to direct human consumption, crude oil refinery, edible oil refinery, oil refinery projects and industrial purpose.
In general, oil refinery plant devides to 3 types: batch oil refinery plant(1-30t/d), semi-continuous oil refinery plant(20-50t/d), continuous oil refinery plant(automatic oil mill machinery 20-100t/d). These 3 oil refinery plants are used for different capacity. But the processes in each oil refinery plant are almost the same.
Edible oil refinery process
Degumming: Crude oil obtained by screw pressing and solvent extraction of oilseeds will throw a deposit of so-called gums on storage. The chemical nature of these gums has been difficult to determine. They contain nitrogen and sugar and can start fermenting so they were at first stage thought to consist of glycolipids and proteins.
Deacidification/ Neutralisation: For deacidification/neutralisation, caustic soda is added directly ahead of the second mixer in such an amount that the free fatty acids and the phosphoric acid added previously are completely neutralised. In addition to the stoichiometric caustic amount necessary for /deacidification/neutralisation of the free fatty acids, a certain caustic soda surplus is required, which depends on oil and its quality.
Decoloration/Bleaching: Decoloration/Bleaching process removes contaminants that adversely impact the appearance and performance of these triglyceride (triacylglycerol)-based materials.
Originally described as a process of mixing oil and clay adsorbent to remove color, the decoloration/bleaching operation effectively removes some of the color, reduces the contents of chlorophyll, residual soap and gums, trace metals, oxidation products, and indirectly impacts on deodorized oil color.
Deodorization: Deodorization is actually a stripping process in which a given amount of a stripping agent (usually steam) is passed for a given period of time through hot oil at a low pressure. Hence, it is mainly a physical process in which various volatile components are removed. However, since it is usually carried out at high temperature (> 200°C), some chemical, thermal effects may take place as well.
Dewaxing: Waxiness impacts palatability of oil; winterization/dewaxing focus on increasing palatability of oil and impoving organoleptic properties such as transparency, brightness, etc. Waxiness content of different oils varies; winterization/dewaxing is necessary to oils like corn oil, rice bran oil, sunflower seed oil, cotton seed oil, etc..
In general, freezing crystallization is widely used in winterization/dewaxing. In another word, reduce oil temperature and crytallize waxiness at first, and separate solid waxiness from liquid oil mechanically. Different oils have different crystallization point, so they need different crystallization speed, temperature, crystallization period, and filter method.
Fractionation: Fractionation is mainly used in palm oil ,palm kernel oil and coconut oil .
In naturally occurring edible oils and fats there are a range of fatty acids involved with the triglycerides. These fatty acids can be saturated, unsaturated, long chain or short chain and in themselves have different melting points. Fractionation can then enable products with less impurities and more specific solid/liquid characteristics to be produced with better functionality in the product and therefore of a higher value.
In edible oil processing, a fractionation process consists of a controlled cooling of the oil, thereby inducing a partial, or 'fractional', crystallization. The remaining liquid (olein) is then separated from the solid fraction (stearin) by means of a filtration or centrifugation.
Theoretically, winterization/dewaxing is different from fractionation. However, they have the same technical process, same with the equipments needed.

Palm fruit sterilizer Put FFB(fresh fruit bunches) in the sterilizer to sterilize palm fruit bunches in a closed tank. The function of sterilizing is to inactivite fatty enzyme to prevent AV(acid value) of palm oil increasing further, which also makes bunches easy to thresh, prepare for the subsequent processing, and to reduce the breakage of kernel.
Palm fruit threshing section The purpose of threshing section is to separate palm fruit from bunches by strong vibration, revolving drum thresher. The oil palm fruit separated will then be sent into the pressing/milling section.
The empty fruit bunches will be ejected to the yard from the other side of the revolving drum, or shipped out from the plant as palm plantation slipcover for reusing, or burning in the locale as fertilizer for agricultural land.
Palm seeds pressing/milling process The palm fruit will be sent to continuous palm oil screw oil. Palm fruit pressed is divided into two parts: mixture of oil, water and solid impurities, cake (fiber and nuclear). The mixture of oil, water and soid impurities inflow to clarification section though oil pipeline; cake is sent to fiber-recovery section by breaking screw conveyor.
Crude palm oil clarification section Crude palm oil extracted from palm fruit is seperated from the mixture by water washing, settlement and filtration, removing fiber from crude palm oil; and continue settlement, the mixture will devide into 2 parts: palm oil and sediment. Palm oil is centrifugal separated and sent into storage through vacuum drying pump, while sediment devide into sewage and dirt oil mixture, sewage will go to sewage pool and achieve further recycling, and dirt oil mixture will achieve another clarification.
Palm oil refinery section The main processes of the palm oil refinery include below steps: de-gumming and de-acidification step, de-colorization step, de-odorization step, and cooling and filtering step.And there are three types of palm oil refinery plant process: batch type palm oil refinery plant, semi-continuous palm oil refinery plant and the continuous palm oil refinery plant.
